Coronavirus: How close are we to a global pandemic?

The topic that concerns us this week consists about a serious problem, which is worrying all citizens:
coronavirus.

An ongoing outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, started in
December 2019. It was first identified in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei, China.
The infection is primarily through human-to-human transmission, via respiratory droplets that people
sneeze or cough.

This situation of extreme danger, not only scares citizen people, but also governments. Throughout
this month, large number of countries have been infected by the coronavirus. Thence, measures have
been taken to prevent the spread and protect the population from the infection.

Speaking about that, an expert has warned the world has reached a "tipping point" in the coronavirus
outbreak as fears of a global pandemic grow. Professor Paul Hunter said the current spread of
COVID-19, outside China is "extremely concerning" and the sharp rise in cases in Italy is a big worry
for Europe.

Reader, now it's your turn. So, what is your opinion in relation to the subject? COVID-19 will represent a
global pandemic disease or is only a insignificant problem that we will solve?
Do you think any solution will be found to exterminate it or on the contrary, we don't have enough
resources to deal with it?

  1. To start with, the coronavirus is the most talked and feared topic in last days. It is a virus originated by another virus in December 2019. The first cases of coronavirus were identified in Wuhan, China. And from here, these last days it has been spreading all over the world. This virus affects in several ways depending on the person, and can even lead to death, but to people who have a low immune system, which are usually the elderly.
To my mind, coronavirus is just a simple flu. It is true that their global expansion is worrisome but this fear that has increased in recent days, is due to the media, which all they are doing is exaggerating things. I am sure that very soon there will be a cure against this “dreadful” virus.

  2. As Kilian has said, the governments have taken some measures to prevent the expansion, but I am not so confident to this, so although some people have traveled to the main infected countries' zones, I can't understand how we can be so clumsy about not stop the infection. For example, here in Spain, the first cases appeared and grew up faster than in Italy, when it's suppose that the infected people had come from Italy and rarely from China.

I can't stop thinking this infection have become a global pandemic due to the goverments' purpose, to frighten us. It's very confusing to think that all of Wuhan's population has locked in their house since the illness apeared if we are aware that it's larger than New York's. Actually, I believe the scientists knew what was the cure before the COVID-19 began to extend, but it's associated with economical interests.

About finding a cure, I can't be help thinking the same than Jheremmy. The cure will be released when the population stops showing all the alarming contents in the social media and gives the importance that has to be given to this matter.
